Bug Fix Release
Version 6.1 is primarily a bug fix of version 6.0 which failed to initialize
with an "out of memory" error whenever an extension existed, in the
[extensions] section of WIN.INI, with less than three characters. This bug was
particularly elusive, as I ran version 6.0 on two dozen machines without being
able to replicate the error (including a 286 with 1 meg). My personal thanks
to Public software Library (PsL) for being the first to report the bug to me,
Public Brand Software for their review and informative Author's Guide, and my
special thanks to all those registered users who wrote and faxed me, in
particular Mr. Matt Kingman of Los Alamitos, CA, without whose help I'd still
be scratching my head.
System Requirements
Windows 3.X or NT running in standard or enhanced mode. VGA recommended.
Mouse required. Hard drive recommended. VBRUN100.DLL required (Visual Basic).
Double Click File Management
There are two drive windows in Rocket, either may be the source or
destination. The key to performing file operations in Rocket is the
double-click. When Rocket is first initialized it is placed in
"No Action-Refresh" mode, meaning a dbl-click on a file will refresh the file
list box(s). To perform a copy or move, select either action from the Action
Menu, and dbl-click on the source file. The message bar (to the right of the
drive icons) will display the source and destination directories, and Rocket's
caption will indicate the action about to be performed. Because there are no
warnings, be sure to reset the Action to refresh when you are done, careless
dbl-clicking can spell disaster with Rocket.
The file mask works in conjunction with the All button. To move a group of
files, set the file box mask (*.* is default) and click the All button. All
files of the type specified have the selected action performed on them.
Launching Data Files
Rocket reads the [extensions] section of your WIN.INI file for application
associations to data files. Select the Utility Menu's Fast Access option to
display a window listing these associations. You may launch EXE, COM, BAT, PIF
or any of the file extensions in the Fast Access window. Simply highlight
the file and select the window state to execute the program into from the
Launch Menu. Rocket can launch two files at the same time! Just highlight a
file in each drive window.
System Programs
The System Menu contains a list of all the programs that are included with
the Windows package. In addition, the Configure System menu item <Ctrl-S>
calls SYSEDIT to allow editing of the AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, WIN.INI, and
SYSTEM.INI files.
Utility Programs
The programs MEMORY 3.4 and CLOCK 2.1 are distributed with Rocket. Please
read all included text files for information on using these programs.
Registration Info
Hit <Ctrl-A> or select the Help Menu's About item to view the information
screen.
A Deliberate Plug
If you only purchase one book this year on Windows 3.1, spend your cash on
MAXIMIZING WINDOWS 3.1 by Jim Boyce (New Riders Publishing). This book will
literally shed light on Windows' deepest and darkest secrets. And with over
6 megs of Windows Software, you can't loose on the cost of the book. If you
want to know everything they didn't tell you in the manuals, read this book!
Shareware Author Needs Work
While writing shareware can be a rewarding experience, it doesn't put
much food on the table. I am seeking full, part-time, or contract work with
any organization that needs a Windows guru. I recently relocated to the Los
Angeles area, but a family illness forced my return to Knoxville. Anyone
interested in employing me may reach me at:
